Arizona Department of Revenue + 1600 Block
The goal of the landscape design is to provide a flexible, safe, high-quality pedestrian plaza on West Adams Street for both the public and staff. In addition, this new plaza will augment the fabric of downtown, encourage clarity and movement between the buildings and help to mitigate climate for higher comfort levels of exterior spaces. The hardscape design is influenced and derived from the design of the Arizona Flag. Elements of the plaza include bioswales to manage and passively treat storm water, permeable paving to increase infiltration, fenced courtyards for break-out spaces adjacent to both buildings, improved entrance courtyards, enhanced shade consisting of both structures and tree shade, universal design to accommodate all ages and abilities, decorative paving, cast-in-place benches, fixed tables, chairs, and benches, and widened or enhanced sidewalks around the entire block. All areas shall receive new high-quality, low water-use landscaping that includes larger trees for shade and gallery style gardens.
