The overarching goals of the City of Glendale Downtown Campus Reinvestment Project are to provide civic and sustainable spaces for the public, while attracting visitors for a variety of events. When phase II is completed, the campus will create a high quality, iconic downtown center that is characteristic of the City of Glendale and celebrates Glendale’s community heritage. Murphy Park implements flexible design which fosters a mix of uses throughout the site, while also providing for both large and small scale programmable and non-programmable events. Universal design will be a cornerstone for site accessibility for users of all ages and abilities. The reinvestment of the City of Glendale Downtown Campus as a park and civic space will act as a catalyst for increased mixed-use, higher intensity, transit-oriented development in city of Glendale. The campus improvements will also support and enhance governmental and cultural facilities directly on-site and out to the broader community. Sustainability is a significant component and goal for the project. The landscape design creates high performance, sustainable landscape spaces which are expressive of itself. Mitigation of climate for maximum user comfort is a main consideration for all outdoor spaces. Enhanced landscape gardens will be created through the implementation of low water use, durable and maintainable materials.
