Phoenix loses about 1,000 trees a year due to monsoon season. The city stopped replacing them due to budget cuts, but after public demand for more spending on trees, Phoenix agreed. Trees are a long-term investment for Phoenix as they help control temperatures and air quality.  A lot of advocacy comes from the urban core of Phoenix, which is booming with lots of apartment buildings and commercial spaces but without any tree planting.
