Scottsdale Community College Cloud Song
SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE CLOUD SONG
Cloud Song Center, located on the Scottsdale Community College Campus, houses its new business school, an Indigenous Scholars Institute, a community center, and facilities scheduling services. The landscape and hardscape concept for this new site reflects the forms in Native American basketry, rugs, and pottery, but with a modern twist. The west entry to the building is based on a riparian river bed, with a grove of Native Mesquites and a series of bioswales planted with native riparian plants interconnecting throughout the space. A weeping wall integrated into the building facade represents the wet weeping canyon walls along the Salt River. At the edges of the bioswales and walking paths, a series of stone accent beds reminiscent of the stone river beds lead the visitors to the building entry points. At the east entry, a Native American dance circle/amphitheater is strategically placed facing due east for viewing the sacred Red Mountain. The entire site landscape is based on an indigenous plant palette.
