Prescott College Campus Housing located on a two acre site on the college campus separated by Butte Creek. Enhancing Prescott College’s commitment to the environment and social justice, the landscape plays a prominent role and is integrated into the housing project. A central gathering area with an outdoor fireplace and a community table provides students an opportunity to come together, share ideas and experiences in a common area. Through community meetings with the students, they expressed their desires for outdoor living and convenience; an outdoor equipment washing station for rock climbing, hiking and all other outdoor gear, a BBQ area as well as permanent and movable seating in the common areas were designed for outdoor living. A native landscape palette to Prescott blends the edges of the existing Butte Creek landscape as well as the buttes to the west. The courtyard bio-swales are planted with native edible plants, fruit trees, as well as an on-site terraced food forest allowing students to grow and cultivate their own food. Sustainability plays a major role in this project with the integration of water harvesting for irrigating the food forest and landscape, as well as the use of reclaimed materials from the existing site and surrounding Prescott area. The project is LEED Platinum Certified and a Net Zero project.
