Arizona State University Student Pavilion

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT PAVILLION

The ASU Student Pavilion is a net-zero, LEED Platinum building in the heart of the main Tempe campus. The landscape and hardscape contiguous to the Student Pavilion offers flexible open space for both programmed and non-programmed events, fostering social interaction and supporting a variety of programs and events.  The entry plaza is located adjacent to indoor pre-function space that allows spill out into the landscape, opening the pavilion to the landscape and welcoming students inside.

Celebrating our Arizona monsoon rains, whilst taking advantage of the rains to supplement the gardens plays a major role in the landscape.  All roof water is funneled down the face of the building, filling up adjacent planters and sending excess water through runnels into the nearby bioswales.  All the building’s condensate is collected and dispersed through the “Arizona stalactites” inspired water feature into the landscape. The resulting design shall exemplify ASU's position on global sustainability through this demonstration project through its perceivable sustainable strategies.
